Update: the Allen R. Trubitt Endowed Scholarship Fund
Dear Family and Friends,
We are writing to update you on the progress of the Allen R. Trubitt Endowed Scholarship Fund and share new developments as we continue our efforts to establish a permanent endowment in memory of Allen.
In order to provide a perpetual award in Allen’s name we need to raise $35,000 over the next five years. All contributions are directed to the Allen R. Trubitt Endowed Scholarship Fund as we work to achieve our goal. We’re very pleased to report that we have already raised over $13,000! Many of you have donated to the fund and we are deeply grateful for your generosity. All gifts designated in Allen’s name bring us one step closer to meeting our target.
One of the most exciting ways we hope to raise additional funds is by programming Allen's music on a series of concerts at the UH Manoa Music Department; donations to the Allen R. Trubitt Endowed Scholarship Fund will be accepted at these events. The first is of these concerts will take place at the grand re-opening of Orvis Auditorium on November 5, 2009; our family will be represented by Janice Yokoyama Trubitt. Even more exciting, we already have at least two donors who plan to make matching gifts for all monies raised in Allen’s name throughout the concert series! Keep an eye on the calendar of events on the Music Department’s website (http://www.hawaii.edu/uhmmusic/events.htm) for details.
Allen was always known for his advocacy on behalf of students and his ability to help them recognize their full potential. One of our goals in developing this award is to carry on his tradition of identifying those students whose success has been marked by overcoming obstacles. We’re happy to report that in May 2009, Michele Pourjalali was selected by the Music Department Composition and Theory faculty to receive the first scholarship in Allen’s name. The Trubitt family was very proud and happy that the award was presented to Michele by Janice Yokoyama Trubitt. We should also point out that Michele’s award was made possible by a separate gift from the Trubitt family to the Music Department General Fund. No monies will be taken from the Allen R. Trubitt Endowed Scholarship Fund until we have reached our $35,000 goal.
We have received many notes and emails from people who wanted to give us their condolences when they heard of Allen’s passing. Interestingly enough, Allen’s death has provided unexpected opportunities to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. We fondly remember his music, humor and the way he touched the lives of the many people he cared about. On behalf of the Trubitt family, we thank you for all the ways you touched Allen’s life in return. You continue to touch ours with your love, support and remembrances.
Mahalo and aloha,
The Trubitt Family

Happy Valentine's Day!
As most who knew Allen will attest, valentine's day was one of his favorite holidays. For years, he made hilarious valentine's day cards and fake form-letters. I always looked forward to them.
So, in that spirt, I'm releasing a recording of Allen music today. As he once wrote, "remember...you are loved!"
